Senior Inventory Accountant (Aggregates / Construction Materials)

Position Overview
The Senior Inventory Accountant is responsible for the oversight, valuation, reconciliation, and control of inventory across aggregates, ready mix concrete, and asphalt operations. This role requires strong expertise in both finished goods and raw material inventory, along with close partnership with operations to ensure accurate reporting, cost integrity, and compliance with accounting standards.
This position plays a critical role in establishing best practices, maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting operational teams, and serving as a key liaison with external auditors on inventory-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management (Aggregates, Ready Mix, Asphalt)
Oversee finished goods inventory processes, including item master setup and maintenance
Reconcile physical-to-book inventory, including volumetric and drone-based measurements
Calculate and post inventory adjustments based on physical counts and analysis
Partner with operations to ensure accurate stockpile measurement and costing assumptions
Develop and maintain standard costing models and analyze cost changes
Monitor raw material usage, yield, and shrinkage; investigate and resolve variances
Perform monthly inventory reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Parts and Supplies Inventory
Oversee accounting and control of parts and supplies across plants, shops, and maintenance facilities
Maintain accurate inventory balances by location and proper classification of inventory vs expense
Implement and manage cycle count programs
Reconcile subledger to general ledger and ensure data integrity
Analyze usage trends, slow-moving inventory, and recommend reserves or write-offs
Maintain item master data including costing, units of measure, and categorization
Process Improvement, Audit, and Compliance
Develop and standardize inventory accounting procedures across business lines
Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements
Establish and maintain internal controls over inventory processes
Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors related to inventory
Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and support requests
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
Collaboration and Business Support
Partner with operations, plant managers, and finance teams to improve inventory visibility and accuracy
Provide insights and reporting to support operational and financial decision-making
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
5–8 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on inventory accounting
Direct experience in aggregates, construction materials, mining, or similar heavy industry required
Hands-on experience with finished goods, raw materials, standard costing, and variance analysis
Experience with physical inventory methods including volumetric or drone measurement preferred
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or CMA designation preferred
Experience with ERP systems and industry-specific platforms
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Deep understanding of inventory and cost accounting principles
Ability to translate operational data into financial insights
