General Summary
Sunrock is hiring a Diesel Preventative Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and reliability of heavy equipment across multiple locations. This role focuses on performing routine preventative maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, ensuring safe operation and minimizing downtime.
This position is ideal for candidates with mechanical aptitude, diesel experience, or heavy equipment maintenance experience who are looking to grow within a stable and expanding company.
The role requires working in an industrial environment with flexibility to support overnight shifts, overtime, and weekend work as needed.
Work Schedule
- Shift: 4:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Schedule: 4 days per week
- Average Work Week: Approximately 60 hours (based on current workload)
- Note: Schedule is currently in place due to operational backlog and is subject to change
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and heavy equipment
- Conduct inspections using checklists to ensure equipment is safe and operational
- Check and maintain fluid levels, lubricate components, and replace minor parts
- Perform basic tire checks and brake inspections; escalate larger repairs
- Clean, inspect, and service equipment and vehicles
- Document maintenance work and report equipment issues
- Operate a service vehicle and travel to job sites as needed
- Maintain accurate records of labor, parts, and service activities
- Assist mechanics and support shop or field maintenance operations
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all MSHA, OSHA, and company safety standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
- Mechanical aptitude with diesel or heavy equipment
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
- Ability to safely use tools and equipment
- Ability to follow instructions, checklists, and safety procedures
- Strong attention to detail and problem awareness
- Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 6 months to 2 years of experience in diesel, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required
- CDL preferred, but not required
