Sunrock is seeking a dependable Maintenance & Equipment Operator to support our Recycling Division by grinding shingles into material used in Hot Mix Asphalt production. This is a hands-on role operating heavy equipment, performing basic maintenance, and ensuring safe, efficient production.
You will work in a small team environment (2–3 people) with steady hours, outdoor work, and opportunities to grow your mechanical and equipment operation skills.

Sunrock is seeking a dependable Maintenance & Equipment Operator to support our Recycling Division by grinding shingles into material used in Hot Mix Asphalt production. This is a hands-on role operating heavy equipment, performing basic maintenance, and ensuring safe, efficient production.
You will work in a small team environment (2–3 people) with steady hours, outdoor work, and opportunities to grow your mechanical and equipment operation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate equipment such as: excavator, rubber tire loader, Roto Chopper, Komptech Crambo 6000, McCloskey S190 screener
- Grind shingles and monitor daily production for quality and efficiency
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, lubrication, cleaning, and part replacements
- Fabricate and weld as needed following safety standards
- Inspect equipment and material for defects and make adjustments to minimize downtime
- Maintain clean and safe work areas in compliance with Sunrock, OSHA, and MSHA standards
- Report unsafe conditions and assist in troubleshooting plant or equipment issues
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1–3 years of related experience in equipment operation or maintenance
- 4 years of welding/fabrication experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work safely around machinery
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair ability
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks
- Frequent standing, climbing, bending, kneeling
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
- Work in outdoor environments with heat, cold, dust, and noise
- Exposure to moving equipment and vibrating machinery
- Full-time: 40 hours/week
- Weekend work as needed
