General Summary

The Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic III will repair, maintain, and assemble diesel and gasoline powered mobile equipment. These tasks include, PM services, brake jobs, on trucks and replacing tires. The role will work under general supervision where routine duties are performed with minimal supervision. Standard practices or procedures allow the employee to proceed alone at routine work.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Complies with all safety policies, practices, procedures and laws. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or Manager Safety and Health.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
• Performs repairs communicated on operator inspection forms.
• Conforms to company and manufacturer preventive maintenance and inspection guidelines.
• Inspects, troubleshoots, observes, listens, and performs diagnostics to equipment in operation to determine malfunction(s) and plan work procedures. Reports observations to immediate supervisor.
• Assists fellow mechanics. Research technical information and requisitions parts.
• Completes all required company, state, and federal paperwork. Maintains accurate system records of labor time, work completed, and parts and supplies used in Computerized Maintenance Management Information System software (CMMIS).
• Overhauls gas and diesel engines and other major power train components utilizing the latest technical information.
• Test-drives required equipment to verify and confirm repairs.
• Fabricates lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
• Assists with parts inventory.
• Completes assigned tasks, technical training modules, and programs.
  
  

Required Skills And Abilities

• Ability to utilize maintenance and inventory software and perform data input and retrieval.
• Must be able to have intermediate knowledge of diagnostic procedures utilizing manufacturers’ software and hardware to gauge machine health and its relationship to a condition monitoring program.
• Must be able to have full understanding of preventive maintenance and inspection procedures including a basic knowledge of filtration, fluids and analysis.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• May perform the simple parts of the tasks without direct supervision and instruction.
• Must be able to have intermediate knowledge of the task (name parts, tools, operating concepts and facts.)
• Must have intermediate knowledge of the subject by being able to identify facts and terms about the subject.
  
  

Education And/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree required. Certificate or Degree program from a two (2) year college or technical school preferred. Five (5) to ten (10) years of related experience and/or training required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
