POSITION TITLE: InVEST Advocate
REPORTS TO: InVEST Advocate Team Leader
POSITION OVERVIEW: Responsible to InVEST Advocate Team Leader. Does not supervise other employees. May work with interns or volunteers. Interrelates with all staff members. Provides support and guidance to victims. This is a 40 hour full time position.
RELATIONSHIPS: Works with law enforcement agencies, personnel in other community agencies and Sunrise Staff when providing advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
· Works in collaboration with the legal advocacy team on reviewing L.E. reports of domestic violence to determine those that are considered high risk. Will maintain documentation of same.
· Provide safety planning with the victim within 72 hours of the initial police report review.
· Provide risk assessment for victims.
· Communicates with members of the Clerk of Courts office, State Attorney’s office, law enforcement or judges on behalf of victims of domestic violence.
· Educates victims as to their options within the legal/judicial system.
· Assists victims with completing paperwork that may be required by the judicial system in order to facilitate legal procedures.
· Assists victims with filing victim’s compensation claims.
· Provides crisis intervention for the victim, which will enhance prosecution or safety for the victim and the victim’s children. Will provided information and referral for further counseling if needed. Document in participant’s file as appropriate.
· Attends Court Hearing, Trials and Live Invests as appropriate
· Assists with monthly statistical reports and other reports that may be required by funding sources or the agency.
· Obtains police reports from Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Dade City Police Department, Zephyrhills Police Dept., New Port Richey Police Dept. and Port Richey Police Dept.
· Other duties as assigned by InVEST Advocate Team Leader.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
· Makes community education/awareness presentations as appropriate.
PROHIBITED FUNCTIONS:
· Does not respond to requests from the media.
· Does not provide any service which could be interpreted as practicing law.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
· Bachelor’s degree in human services or criminology preferred.
· Experience in court advocacy and/or negotiation.
· Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and up-to-date car insurance.
· Can function calmly in a crisis atmosphere.
· Have knowledge of community resources and the ability to maintain a cordial working relationship with other agencies.
· Have computer skills and can work in the Windows environment.
· Must function independently while working cooperatively as a member of a team.
· Available to meet with domestic violence survivors in the evening or on weekends if necessary to provide enhanced services.
· Must pass screening by FDLE and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
· Must be able to work with a culturally diverse community with sensitivity and professionalism.
