What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence Outreach Advocate position at Sunrise of Pasco, Inc.?
POSITION TITLE: Outreach Advocate II
REPORTS TO: Outreach East Program Director
POSITION OVERVIEW: Coordinates and provides direct services to victims of sexual assault for all of Pasco Countyand domestic violence throughout Pasco County. This is a 40 hour full time position.
RELATIONSHIPS: Interacts with all agency staff and members of the outside community agencies. May work with interns and volunteers as assigned.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Meets with primary and/or secondary victims and/or their significant other irrespective of the assault being / not being reported to law enforcement.
- On-Call to accompany victims of sexual assault to S.A.F.E. exams.
- Provides domestic violence and/or sexual assault services to Sunrise participants based on individual needs.
- Coordinates services for victims with other agencies in the community.
- Provides or arranges for legal advocacy for victims of sexual and/or domestic violence.
- Facilitate meeting/support groups of primary and / or secondary survivors of sexual violence with a supportive, personal growth and / or educational focus.
- Maintains participant records in accordance with Sunrise’s requirements.
- Maintains and compiles statistics of participants served and completes reports as required by funding agency in a timely fashion.
- Provide crisis intervention services to victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Provides community education/awareness to schools, civic groups and other interested parties on identifying and helping victims of domestic and sexual violence
- Maintains active community involvement as it relates to services.
- Assists with event planning for community awareness and Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Months.
- Other duties as assigned by the Outreach East Program Director.
PROHIBITED FUNCTIONS:
- Does not respond to media requests unless specifically required to do so by supervisor (s) or CEO of Sunrise, Inc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work (preferred) or related field and a minimum of one year experience providing crisis intervention to trauma victims.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence andsexual assault issues.
- Knowledge of group facilitation
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with members of other agencies.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
- Must be able to organize, prioritize and use time efficiently.
- Must pass screening by FDLE and Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
- Maintain professional training hours.
- Maintain Victim Services Practitioner Designation.
- Must be able to work with a culturally diverse community with sensitivity and professionalism.
· All individuals facilitating support groups shall complete thirty (30) hours of Florida Council Against Sexual Violence Advocacy Core Training, including at least two (2) hours of instructor led role plays, as well as at least four (4) hours of on-the-job training, within 30 days of starting the position and prior to providing direct services to sexual assault survivors. Eight (8) hours of ongoing sexual violence training is required annually.
