POSTION TITLE: Education Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The special education teacher will teach students with disabilities English or Math at a small charter middle school catering to the whole child. Most of the learning takes place in the general classroom setting, with some students in a small group setting when necessary. This position is full-time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists with the special education needs at a school of 300 students.
2. Facilitates IEP meetings with parents, students, teachers, and other specialists
3. Writes compliant IEP for students with disabilities using SEIS and works with them to achieve their goals and make significant gains
4. Assesses students for learning disabilities for initial and triennial IEPs and administers standardized assessments while following testing accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs/504s
5. Maintains special education records
6. Teaches a small SAI class, or co-teaches with general education teachers in the classroom and to maintain the accommodations and modifications of students with disabilities
7. Maintains open communication with general education teachers, staff, and parents about progress of students
8. Tutors students and works with student groups in a supportive, nurturing, respectful and helpful manner
9. Works with students with learning and/or behavioral differences
10. Uses a wide variety of instructional materials, both digital and non-digital. Prepares for and assists with various classroom curriculums
11. Assists in the preparation of graphic and written teaching materials
12. Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings
13. Performs other related duties as assigned
14. Ensuring full compliance with legal requirements under state and federal special education laws
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Special Education credential (mild to moderate) preferred but not required.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
