What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Use Disorder Counselor/Care Manager position at Sunrise Centre Inc?
We welcome you to join our team by providing individual and group counseling services to residents with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring mental health disorders in our 41-bed treatment facility. In this role you will counsel clients with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. You will complete intake assessments, person-centered treatment plans, and diagnoses within the scope of your license and degree then conduct counseling sessions while utilizing evidence-based interventions to support clients working towards sustainable recovery.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in the Human Service field required; certification with the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) as a CADC or CAADC preferred or ability to get on a development plan to work toward that certification. Excellent communication skills required. Able to maintain confidentiality and uphold highest standards of ethical conduct.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate psychological, social and physiological signs and symptoms of alcohol or other drug use and abuse
- Determine the client’s appropriateness and eligibility for admission or referral
- Identify coexisting conditions (medical, psychiatric, or physical) that indicate need for additional professional assessment and/or services
- Complete requirements for program eligibility and appropriateness (ASAM Placement Criteria)
- Gather relevant history from the client including but not limited to alcohol and other drug use using appropriate interview techniques
- Identify methods and procedures for obtaining collaborative information from significant secondary sources regarding clients’ alcohol and/or other drug use and psychosocial history
- Implement appropriate assessment tools and techniques to facilitate understanding with clients
- Develop a diagnostic evaluation of clients’ substance use disorder and any coexisting conditions based on the results of all assessments
- Provide an integrated approach to treatment planning based on the clients’ strengths, weaknesses and identified problems and needs
- Collaborate with treatment team members or external professionals to establish initial treatment plan, including long and short term goals, and comprehensive, quality care for clients
- Provide relevant education to clients’ using a formal didactic format with reading materials, film, formal and informal individual processes
- Identify client needs Sunrise Centre cannot meet and assist in establishing support systems and community resources
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations and agency policies governing procedures relating to the protection of the clients’ confidentiality and governing alcohol and drug use services
- Document results of assessment, treatment planning, therapy sessions, counseling approach, client education, progress and benefits gained, and ongoing issues/concerns in a timely manner
- Respond to clients’ needs during acute emotional and/or physical distress by providing crisis intervention
- Identify client problems requiring resolution
- Provide individualized counseling, help clients mobilize resources to resolve problems and modify attitudes and values
- Review treatment plans and modify weekly
- Obtain authorization for length of stay from the appropriate funding source
- Facilitate group therapy in the residential program to help clients explore problems and ramifications
- Complete discharge planning, arrange for continuing care and seek appropriate authorization
- Agree to and comply with all company policies and procedures, including how to handle patient grievances, proper intake procedures, staff meeting requirements and general code of conduct
- Assist with general monitoring of residential and detoxification clients
- Administer Preliminary Breath Test or drug tests as warranted
- Participate in seminars, training and education for the ongoing acquisition of clinical interventions appropriate to residential treatment, and mandatory in-service trainings
- Demonstrate competence in the cultural issues impacting the lives of residents and clients, including consideration of age, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, and socioeconomic status
- Perform perceptive emotional judgement and decision-making
- Demonstrate strong social awareness and compassion for challenging, sensitive interactions
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24.40 - $31.75 per hour
