Position Overview

Sunray ISD is seeking a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Assistant Principal and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director at Sunray High School. This position combines traditional campus administrative responsibilities with leadership of the district’s CTE programs. The ideal candidate will be an instructional leader who builds strong relationships, supports positive campus culture, and ensures students graduate prepared for college, career, and military pathways through high-quality CTE programming, aligned pathways, and attainment of Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs).

Primary Responsibilities

Student Management & Campus Operations

  • Assist with implementing and managing a consistent, equitable campus-wide discipline system
  • Monitor and address student attendance and tardy patterns; collaborate with families and attendance committees
  • Support campus safety procedures, including emergency drills, safety plans, and supervision of students
  • Maintain a visible presence on campus to promote a positive school climate
  • Support student engagement through extracurricular programs, activities, and student leadership opportunities

Instructional Leadership

  • Support teachers with lesson planning, classroom management, and effective instructional strategies
  • Conduct classroom walkthroughs and provide timely, meaningful feedback
  • Support implementation of curriculum, graduation requirements, and campus instructional initiatives
  • Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions and improve outcomes
  • Support interventions for students not meeting academic or graduation expectations

 

 

Teacher Support & Evaluation

  • Support implementation of the T-TESS appraisal system, including observations, feedback conferences, and professional growth plans
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to strengthen instructional practice across content areas
  • Support professional learning aligned to campus improvement goals and district priorities
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Leadership

  • Serve as campus leader for all CTE programs and pathways
  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of CTE pathways aligned to student interest, workforce needs, and postsecondary opportunities
  • Ensure alignment of CTE programs with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements and Perkins guidelines
  • Promote student participation and success in coherent CTE pathways
  • Increase student attainment of Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) and monitor performance data
  • Collaborate with counselors to support course selection, endorsements, and graduation plans connected to career pathways
  • Support recruitment and retention of students in CTE programs
  • Supervise CTE teachers as assigned and support instructional quality in CTE classrooms
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses, industry, and postsecondary institutions to enhance real-world learning opportunities
  • Support work-based learning opportunities such as internships, job shadowing, and dual credit aligned to pathways

Programs & Compliance

  • Support implementation and documentation of Federal Programs (Title I, ESSA, etc.)
  • Assist with compliance monitoring and documentation for special programs
  • Support implementation of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) as assigned
  • Ensure CTE compliance with TEA, Perkins V, and district reporting requirements
  • Support accurate data reporting related to CTE participation, concentrators, and IBC attainment

Campus & Community Leadership

  • Assist with planning and implementation of campus improvement plans and district initiatives
  • Collaborate with campus leadership team to strengthen academic performance and school culture
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, staff, business partners, and community stakeholders
  • Represent the campus and district positively at community and workforce-related events

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required
  • Valid Texas Principal or Mid-Management Administrator Certification
  • Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience (administrative experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of Texas education law, accountability systems, and T-TESS
  • Knowledge of TEA CTE programs, pathways, and IBC requirements preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with discipline systems, attendance processes, and instructional leadership
  • Experience in CTE leadership, program coordination, or workforce partnerships preferred
