PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Technology serves as the District’s leader for enterprise technology strategy, digital transformation, cybersecurity governance, and instructional innovation. The Director ensures that technology systems are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned to the District’s Strategic Plan, Board policy, and Superintendent priorities.
This position exists to advance student achievement, eliminate opportunity gaps, strengthen operational excellence, and promote the ethical and responsible use of emerging technologies in PK–12 education.
The Director functions both as a systems architect responsible for infrastructure, data, and security, and as a strategic partner supporting teaching and learning, equity initiatives, governance, and innovation across the District.
The Director provides leadership and oversight for technology operations including infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, data systems, help desk services, instructional technology, records management, and digital learning systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:
- Ensure technology strategy directly supports District vision and student outcomes.
- Develop and implement a multi-year Technology Strategic Plan.
- Align enterprise technology initiatives with Board priorities and District Strategic .
- Advise Cabinet and Board on digital transformation, risk posture, AI governance and capital investments.
- Anticipate emerging trends and position the District proactively.
- Create a secure, resilient and highly available technology ecosystem.
- Ensure high-performing wired/wireless infrastructure across all sites.
- Oversee District cloud environments.
- Lead cybersecurity risk management, monitoring and incident response.
- Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, CIPA, COPPA, PPRA, state privacy laws and records retention regulations.
- Ensure technology enhances teaching, learning and equitable access.
- Partner with Teaching & Learning to align digital tools to instructional priorities.
- Lead ethical AI governance frameworks, including privacy impact reviews and bias mitigation.
- Ensure equity and accessibility across the system.
- Guide evaluation and adoption on instructional software and platforms.
- Ensure professional development supports meaningful classroom integration.
- Create reliable, customer-centered technology services district-wide.
- Implement IT service management (ITIL-alignment or equivalent).
- Establish measurable performance metrics (ticket resolution time, satisfaction ratings, uptime).
- Lead lifecycle management for devices and enterprise systems.
- Drive continuous improvement across technical operations.
- Implement sustainable, transparent and strategic use of resources.
- Develop and manage multi-million-dollar operational and capital budgets.
- Align technology lifecycle replacement with long-term financial planning.
- Partner with Capital Projects on infrastructure standards for modernization and new construction.
- Negotiate vendor contracts and ensure service level accountability.
- Ensure high-performing, accountable and collaborative technology teams.
- Supervise and evaluate department leadership.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability systems.
- Mentor and develop emerging leaders.
- Build a service-oriented culture grounded in integrity and professionalism.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- May be a member of District level committees.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Builds and maintains positive working relationships District staff, including building
Principals and District level Directors.
Work effectively with vendors and other external partners.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lift or carry objects weighing 50 pounds occasionally (objects weighing over 50 pounds should ask for assistance), 25 to 49 pounds frequently, and/or up-to 10 to 20 pounds constantly, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment. Must be ready to work when a system experiences an emergency failure or issue.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, Information Systems, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
Administrator or Program Director Certification preferred.
Classroom teaching experience preferred.
