DEFINITION OF POSITION:  Under the direction Building Principal, serve as an instructional, playground and building paraeducator

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Building Principal and/or Designee

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed at least 2 years of study (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) at an institution of higher education OR obtained an associate's (or higher) degree OR completed one of the following: ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher, Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, or Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
  • Complete the Fundamental Course of Study before working with students and families
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications
  • Work effectively with elementary-age learners
  • Possess or obtain First Aid & CPR certification within 30 days of employment 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with students in a classroom and/or playground setting
  • Knowledge of FERPA laws and procedures
  • Behavior management/communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES

  • Instructional building support in the classroom(s) as assigned; lead intervention groups and work directly with students as defined by their individual programs
    • Work with individual or small groups of students (academic, social emotional, or behavior)
    • Work with students with disabilities
    • Assist with student/building behavior programs, including de-escalation
    • Assist with district and State assessments (For example, MAPs/State Assessments)
    • Assist with school-wide academic/behavior programs 
  • Assist building principal with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned
    • Partner with building principal in planning and facilitating student, parent, and community events/programs
    • Partner with principal on various building duties as assigned 
  • Recess duties a minimum of 2 hours per day - including playground/cafeteria/student pick-up and drop-off supervision/crossing guard duties 
  • Health room coverage may include up to 1 hour per day. Assist with student health needs, nursing tasks, and the dispersing of medications per procedures and as delegated by the school nurse or building administrator including, but not limited to, medication administration including oral medications, eye drops, ear drops, topical medications, inhalers, and epi-pens; providing standard first aid; attend to student hygiene needs; monitoring blood sugar; documentation (charting in health room and medication logs); and monitoring and keeping necessary supplies maintained and stocked 
  • General Characteristics:

    • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
    • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
    • Work in multiple settings and be willing to be trained in a variety of areas
    • May require lifting 20 lbs. and prolong periods of standing/walking around
    • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible 

TERMS OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Salary: Classified, Paraeducator, $23.30 - $26.97 per hour
  • Length of Contract: 3 hours/day (11:40 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.), 180 days/year plus two additional district directed days
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.  Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).  Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Paraeducators Association (PPA) and the Pullman School District (PPA Bargaining Agreement).
