Position Summary: Perform the duties required to set up, conduct and record data for testing.

Essential Functions


  1. Debug and trouble shoot machine-operating software.
  2. Determine proper test for a specific tool or machine when test parameters are not provided.
  3. Choose proper tooling for honing and feed parameters and fixturing to properly run the test.
  4. Determine honing parameters including speeds, feeds pressures, stroke lengths, stroke rates.
  5. Hone test parts with prototype equipment to hold very close tolerances per requested engineer specifications.
  6. Verify part specification using micrometers, surface finish analyzing equipment, roundness checkers and a variety of precision measuring equipment.
  7. Collect an extensive amount of data that could be pertinent to the success or failure of a tool or a machine.
  8. Calculate honing ratio, volumetric stonewear, volumetric stock removal and stock removal rate.
  9. Prepare reports, graphs and draw conclusions from the data collected and relay information to the engineer in charge.
  10. Troubleshoot any unusual circumstances and report to proper engineer.
  11. Disassemble, clean, repair and reassemble machines, oil carts, tools, etc.
  12. Communicate with supervisors, engineers and fellow employees.
  13. Train personnel on existing and prototype equipment.
  14. Determine if customer complaints are valid with specific tools and machines; demonstrate tools or machinery to customers, fellow employees, board members and family members.
  15. Modify test and/or machine parts by using drill press, drill motors, mills and other shop equipment.
  16. Make recommendations to the appropriate engineer for changes in tooling and/or machines.
  17. Work with related departments to ascertain the proper information, tooling and machine changes, and special unconventional work.
  18. Move and set up prototype and standard type machines.

  1. Use basic, entry-level electrical skills to connect, calibrate, and operate load cells, transducers, data acquisition systems, etc.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
  2. The employee must exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at 20 feet or more as well as 20 inches or less.



Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Somewhat undesirable working conditions. Exposed to odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, chemicals and other elements with no element continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires a high school education or equivalent plus additional broad specialized training equal to two years of college.

Experience: Requires 3 to 5 years experience to gain sufficient knowledge to fulfill the duties of the position.

Typical office equipment: Telephone, copier, fax, printer, computer, typical Microsoft office software, etc.

Sunnen Honing Equipment: Machines, Tools, Abrasives, Coolants, and Gages

Basic QC equipment: Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, microscopes, comparator, gage blocks/pins, and other precise measuring equipment

Electrical equipment: Data acquisition, load cells, strip charts, voltmeters, linear transducers, etc.

Typical, mechanical hand tools


License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Fork truck certification, Arc Flash certification
