About The Role
Sunnen Products Company is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Abrasive Inspector/Tester to join our brick manufacturing team in our St. Louis, MO location. In this hands‑on role, you will test and inspect abrasive bricks for quality, hardness, and dimensional accuracy using bore‑testing machines and related equipment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys mechanical work, problem‑solving, and working independently in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate trim saws, grinders, and bore‑testing machines to trim, test, and finish abrasive bricks. Perform hardness and bore tests on both ends of bricks; record and mark test values. Log test results accurately in logbooks. Push/pull heavy tables between staging and testing areas. Inspect hole sizes to ensure they meet specifications. Perform basic preventative maintenance on bore‑testing machines. Replenish oil tanks, empty oil cans, and clean drainpipes and pumps. Replace posh pins and set screws as needed. Report low inventory levels to the Cell Leader or Supervisor. Train employees on trim saw operation. Load and unload kilns. Stencil and label finished bricks.
Required Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions. Strong common‑sense reasoning and ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to solve problems in standardized situations. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions. Ability to reference formulas, charts, shop prints, and specifications.
Experience
1-3 years of relevant manufacturing, inspection, or machine‑operation experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Regular standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping, and handling materials. Ability to lift 25-50 lbs occasionally and over 50 lbs rarely. Ability to read machine gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments (close‑range vision required).
Work Environment
Exposure to manufacturing conditions and occasional disagreeable elements. Use of grinders, trim saws, bore‑testing machines, computers, and standard office equipment.
