Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Ensure all coding complies with current regulations and payer requirements to facilitate accurate reimbursement.
- Prepare and submit detailed medical bills using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Follow up on unpaid claims through medical collection processes while maintaining compliance with healthcare laws and policies.
- Verify medical records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before coding to ensure high-quality documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary for precise coding.
- Maintain organized records of all billing activities, coding updates, and correspondence related to claims processing.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation.
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as understanding of DRG classifications.
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems for efficient data entry and retrieval.
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures and the medical collection process.
