Job Description:
Sunflower County Consolidated School District is seeking a dedicated Custodian to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management department, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our school premises.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
• Ensure all exit doors are locked and panic bars are functioning properly during occupancy hours
• Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture weekly
• Clean corridors throughout the day and after school each day
• Scrub and disinfect toilets and bathroom floors daily
• Clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
• Wash windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year
• Perform yard chores, such as grass cutting and tree trimming, to maintain safe and attractive school grounds
• Make minor building repairs and report major issues to the principal promptly
• Replace light bulbs as needed
• Assume responsibility for opening and closing the building each school day, ensuring all doors/windows are secured and unnecessary lights are turned off
• Conduct ongoing general maintenance, upkeep, and repair programs
• Store and dispose of trash, rubbish, and waste in compliance with local regulations
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal
• Attend in-service/staff development training
• Inform the principal of needed supplies, equipment, and requisitions in a timely manner to avoid hindering custodian duties
• Remain on school premises during school hours except during lunch
• Attend school functions during non-school hours when authorized and services are requested/needed
• Maintain a regular schedule of motor and other mechanical equipment servicing
• Clean and repair equipment and furniture on a timely basis
• Paint walls and furniture if time permits
Requirements:
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Previous experience in custodial services or related field preferred
