The Assistant Teacher (Aide) is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in the achievement of the overall social and educational development of the students in their class. The Aide works with teachers and assistant teachers to provide a safe, consistent, nurturing, educational environment that challenges and supports their students. They are responsible for supporting the academic scheduling, content delivery, and activities of the students in their classroom. Sundale Aides are expected to support the creation of a stimulating and fun academic environment, with an emphasis on current trends in preschool-age curriculum and delivery methods. The Aide reports directly to the Preschool Director and works under the direction of the Head Teacher or Site Supervisor.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Be prompt and prepared each day;
* Collaborate with team members;
* Support the daily activities of the classroom, assist children during play, learning and potty training
* Collaborate with Head Teacher on classroom management and curriculum;
* Keep all student records accurate and updated, including attendance and lunch counts;
* Perform daily classroom and facilities sanitation activities as needed;
* Help maintain a creative, nurturing and peaceful classroom environment, conducive to learning;
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum Required (22 CCR sect 101216.2; Teacher Aide Qualifications)
* Completed with passing grades, 6 postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education (ECE) or development (ECD), from an accredited or approved school, college or university as defined in 22 CCR sect. 101216.1(d); and,
* at least six months of work experience in a licensed child care center.
Preferred
* Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university, with a major or emphasis in ECE or ECD;
* 1 year experience in a licensed childcare center.
SKILLS
* Able to accurately read and write in the English language at a college level;
* Able to use positive discipline and correction in an age-appropriate manner;
* Able to use creative methods for student interaction and instruction;
* Able to use positive problem-solving methods for resolving conflicts in the classroom and with fellow staff members.
