Summary:

 The Superintendent 2ND SHIFT is responsible for coordinating the activities in the plant to ensure production, quality and safety meet standards.  The superintendent will oversee, prioritize, and direct the actions of employees from all departments working on his shift.


Responsibilities:

The following duties are considered essential to this position.  Other responsibilities may be assigned.
 

  • Coordinate the work assignments of the department supervisors, labor supervisors, material control supervisors, grinder operators, janitors, material handlers, quality control personnel, set up crews, automation techs, maintenance, and process techs on the shift.
  • Work with the production departments to resolve production issues.
  • Run daily production reports to determine department and shift performance.
  • Coordinate with the quality assurance department to ensure that product meets quality standards.
  • Coordinate with process, maintenance, tooling, and automation to set up, start up, troubleshoot and terminate jobs per the schedule.
  • Ensure that production equipment is operating to standards.  Notify service personnel for repair.  Submit work orders for maintenance as required.
  • Monitor the shop order status.  Use system tools such as iVP and Mattec when required.  Ensure that appropriate action for shop order closing is taken in a timely manner and within the established shop order goal.
  • Execute procedures to ensure an efficient and timely change-over plan for production cells that are changing from one item to another.
  • Have excess inventory and equipment for completed shop orders identified, counted, and removed from the work area. 
  • Use computer-based production information systems to plan shift work assignments.
  • Notify industrial engineering of incorrect standards, floor layouts, or BOM’s.
  • Stay informed of new technology, methods, and materials for this position.
  • Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times.  Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.
  • Explain company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Confer with the Director of Human Resources on staffing, hiring, and disciplining employees.
  • Understand the employee bargaining agreement (union contract) and ensure that work methods and discipline are in accordance with that agreement.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Assist workers in resolving work related problems.
  • Maintain employee time and production records.
  • Prepare required annual personnel performance reviews in a timely basis.

Requirements:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Five or more years of related on-the-job experience. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak to the employees he or she supervises. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • This employee will need to have basic computer skills for using and accurately entering data in established spreadsheets and databases.  He or she must be capable of learning advanced skills such as setting up spreadsheets and using features such as formulas and graphs.  Experience with ERP or MRP systems and Windows-based programs are a plus.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.

While performing this job, the employee will be required to sit, walk within office, manufacturing, and warehouse areas; use a computer with keyboard and mouse, effectively communicate with others, and use active listening skills.  Vision requirements include ability for close vision so printed reports and computer screens can be read, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  This is a full-time position.  Due to fluctuations in production schedules, this employee may be required to be on-call and work additional hours, including weekends, to meet additional demands and deadlines.

The Anticipated Pay Range for This Position:  $72-$82K annually
