GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and energetic Youth Program Coordinator to help plan, coordinate, and lead a variety of youth programs at our Sunbury Branch. This position is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive while supporting the YMCA's mission of strengthening the community.
Working under the direction of the Physical Program Director, the Youth Program Coordinator will assist with the development, promotion, organization, and day-to-day operation of youth programs while helping expand opportunities for children and families throughout our community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Experience working with children or youth programs (preferred).
- A passion for working with youth and creating positive experiences.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
- The ability to multitask, solve problems, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience supervising or coordinating volunteers or staff is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe).
- Successful completion of all required background clearances for working with youth.
- Knowledge of YMCA programs and policies is a plus.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
As the Youth Program Coordinator, you will:
- Coordinate, organize, and lead youth programs including Little Stars, Big Stars, Mommy & Me, youth sports, camps, clinics, leagues, tournaments, and other assigned activities.
- Create a fun, safe, and inclusive environment that encourages learning, teamwork, confidence, and healthy lifestyles.
- Supervise youth participants while ensuring YMCA safety standards, policies, and risk management procedures are followed.
- Help develop new youth programs and activities to meet the needs of the community.
- Work with the Marketing and Sponsorship Department to promote programs and increase participation.
- Maintain participant registrations, attendance records, reports, and required program documentation.
- Complete accident and incident reports as needed.
- Monitor program areas, equipment, and facilities to ensure they remain clean, safe, and organized.
- Communicate participant needs, facility concerns, and equipment requests to the Physical Program Director.
- Assist with evaluating programs and implementing improvements based on participant feedback.
- Coordinate and assist with YMCA special events such as Healthy Kids Day, National Night Out, community outreach events, and other family activities.
- Build positive relationships with youth, parents, and families while providing excellent customer service.
- Enforce the YMCA Code of Conduct and Youth Incident Policy consistently and professionally.
- Promote YMCA membership, programs, and services to participants and families.
- Assist with recruiting, training, scheduling, and supporting volunteers and program staff.
- Help manage program supplies, equipment, and inventory while communicating budgetary needs.
- Participate in regular planning meetings with the Physical Program Director.
- Assist with summer camp, after-school programs, school-age care, school-off-day programs, and other youth initiatives as needed.
- Be available to work evenings and weekends based on program schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
