An opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support a 1st-grade student at an elementary school in Yelm, Washington. This role is a full-time contracted position, primarily onsite, offering a consistent schedule of 6.5 hours per day (6 hours paid plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch), totaling 32.5 hours per week. Part-time candidates are also encouraged to apply, especially those available daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., which is identified as the most critical time frame.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation services to a 1st-grade student.
- Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, staff, and peers to promote an inclusive educational environment.
- Maintain professional standards as outlined by state and educational interpreter certification requirements.
- Participate actively in ongoing assessments to ensure compliance with performance standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Successful passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).
- Either a minimum score of 4.0 on the Performance Test or holding current National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance with Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) requirements, including retesting deadlines and documentation of efforts to meet standards.
- Ability to work onsite full-time or part-time according to the established schedule.
