The Shop Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Rental Operations team while remaining actively involved in the inspection, testing, repair, and preparation of rental electrical equipment. This role supports our Temporary Power Solutions division by ensuring equipment availability, operational excellence, employee development, safety compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of the Rental Operations team.
  • Assign work priorities based on customer schedules, equipment availability, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure rental and sales equipment is inspected, tested, repaired, maintained, and prepared for deployment on schedule.
  • Monitor workflow to maximize productivity while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Train, mentor, coach, and develop team members through ongoing feedback and performance management.
  • Monitor employee attendance, scheduling, and timekeeping, and assist with hiring and onboarding activities.
  • Coordinate equipment movement between the shop, warehouse, yard, and customer deliveries to support operational efficiency.
  • Maintain fleet readiness through preventative maintenance planning and equipment lifecycle management.
  • Manage shop inventory, tools, supplies, and equipment while coordinating facility maintenance and special projects.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Fleet Management, Safety, Human Resources, and other departments to support customer requirements.
  • Coordinate staffing and equipment availability for emergency and after-hours customer support.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow all company safety policies, regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Properly wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with applicable safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, and material handling equipment in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Perform all work to company quality standards and ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and customer-ready.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, near misses, incidents, and quality concerns.
  • Participate in required safety training, meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Distribution Panels
  • Dry-Type Transformers
  • Pad-Mounted Transformers
  • Substation Transformers
  • Load Banks
  • Power Distribution Equipment
  • Cable Assemblies
  • Motor Starters
  • Circuit Breakers
  • Splitters
  • Additional temporary power equipment across multiple voltage classes
  • 3 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or foreman experience in an industrial, electrical, or rental environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems, including low- and medium-voltage equipment.
  • Experience reading electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with Megger, Hi-Pot, Power Factor, TTR, Resistance Bridge, and other electrical testing equipment preferred.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance or inventory management systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting performed using appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, reach overhead, and work in confined spaces as required.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements while operating tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop or material handling equipment, as required.
  • Ability to distinguish colors, labels, and equipment markings when performing job duties.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, hearing protection, gloves, eye protection, and other protective equipment, as required.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor manufacturing, warehouse, and rental operations environments that may involve exposure to heat, cold, dust, fumes, noise, and varying weather conditions.
