Position Overview

Sun Scientific is seeking a hands-on Controller / Finance Lead to oversee all accounting and finance functions for the organization. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to senior leadership and will be responsible for owning the company's day-to-day accounting operations while helping establish the processes, controls, and financial infrastructure needed to support continued growth.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to handle both transactional accounting and higher-level financial planning activities.

The successful candidate will be adaptable, process-oriented, and capable of working independently while serving as the company's primary finance leader.

Key Responsibilities;

Financial Reporting & Accuracy

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP
• Maintain accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting

Accounting Operations Management

• Oversee accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, 1099 retainers, monthly commission reporting,

and general ledger

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations
• Supervise outsourced bookkeeping firm
• Ensure proper documentation and transaction controls

Internal Controls & Policy

• Establish and enforce financial policies and internal controls
• Safeguard company assets and minimize financial risk
• Improve processes and systems for efficiency and scalability

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting process
• Develop financial forecasts and projections
• Monitor financial performance against company targets
• Provide data-driven insights into senior leadership

Compliance & Auditing

• Manage tax filings and regulatory compliance
• Coordinate with external auditors
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations

Cash Flow & Financial Analysis

• Monitor and manage company cash flow
• Provide financial analysis and reporting to support business growth
• Identify financial trends, risks, and strategic opportunities

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
• 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
• Extensive experience managing financial operations for small companies
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Experience supporting a company in growth or commercialization phase preferred
• High level of responsibility, integrity, and attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Technical Requirements

• Strong experience with QuickBooks Desktop (required)
• Experience with Biller Genie (preferred)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (highly experienced; strong analytical capability expected)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA qualified.
• Progressive accounting experience with strong hands-on accounting expertise.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Finance Lead, or similar leadership capacity.
• Advanced general ledger and account reconciliation experience.
• Strong budgeting and forecasting experience.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop (required).
• Ability to work onsite five days per week in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
• Experience working in small company, startup, entrepreneurial, or high-growth environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with direct, fast-paced leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within manufacturing, medical device, healthcare, or product-based organizations.
• Experience building accounting processes and controls from the ground up.
• Prior responsibility for leading accounting functions with limited internal resources.

Work Environment

• Fully onsite in Dobbs Ferry, NY (5 days per week).
• Candidates within approximately one hour commuting distance preferred.
