Duties
- Conduct a wide range of laboratory tests including immunoassays, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay), flow cytometry, and RNA extraction to support clinical diagnostics and research studies.
- Perform specimen collection and processing procedures such as venipuncture, blood sampling, and blood banking with strict adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Manage laboratory data using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), ensuring accurate data entry, analysis, and reporting for clinical trials and research projects.
- Isolate DNA and RNA from various biological samples, optimizing protocols for high-quality results suitable for downstream applications.
- Maintain meticulous records of laboratory activities, specimen tracking, assay results, and quality control measures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Oversee laboratory operations including inventory management, equipment calibration, maintenance schedules, and adherence to safety standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret laboratory findings within the context of physiology knowledge, anatomy understanding, and medical terminology.
- Support hospital-based activities such as vital signs measurement, phlebotomy procedures, and specimen collection for diagnostic purposes.
- Contribute to the development and validation of new assays or techniques to enhance laboratory capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory procedures, safety regulations, and accreditation standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills
- Extensive experience in clinical laboratory settings with proficiency in laboratory techniques such as PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunoassays, DNA/RNA isolation, and blood banking procedures.
- Strong data management skills with familiarity in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and data analysis tools.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and blood sampling techniques including venipuncture and phlebotomy.
- Ability to perform complex laboratory procedures accurately while maintaining aseptic techniques to prevent contamination.
- Experience working within hospital environments or clinical trials with an understanding of specimen collection/processing protocols.
- Excellent organizational skills for managing specimens, assay workflows, and laboratory documentation efficiently.
- Capable of interpreting test results within the context of clinical information to support diagnosis or research objectives.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety standards including blood-borne pathogen precautions and proper disposal methods.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with healthcare professionals and research teams effectively.
