Public Safety Officer (Part-Time)

Summary:

Under the direction of the Public Safety Manager, this position patrols the District, assists with citizen complaints, concerns, and reports suspicious activity to the appropriate agencies. This position exercises good judgement when responding to security calls and provides intervention techniques to deter and detect potentially problematic situations.

Essential Job Functions (Illustrative Only):

· Patrols and monitors an assigned area; reports suspicious activities to local authorities

· Monitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and responds to calls pertaining to general security

· Performs property checks for District facilities after business hours, checks doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secure

· Provides backup coverage and cross-trains with the Code Enforcement Officer to assist with violation notices, as needed

· Generates reports of security-related calls and actions to provide to upper management

· Takes proactive steps to provide a safe and secure environment for staff and residents

· Coordinates with other departments to provide security staff for District events and functions, as requested

· Performs other related work as required.

Qualification Requirements:

· Basic principles of working as private security

· Managing employees and creating/balancing work shift schedules

· Operation and application of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

· Correct application and use of the English language, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

· High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required

· Class D Security License

· Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License, have a satisfactory driving record, and insurable by the District to operate District vehicles.

Experience:

Progressively responsible experience in private security, preferred

Work Hours:

The District provides 24/7/365 security patrol; thus, the schedule is subject to change as required to meet the needs of the District. Must be willing to work night shifts, overtime and/or alternate schedules as required. Must be willing to participate in the on-call standby rotation on a regular basis which may include some holidays. This position is disaster essential and may be required to report to work immediately following a natural disaster (such as a hurricane).

Pay: From $14.76 per hour
