Experienced Commercial Electrician

Position Summary

Sun Lighting Electrical Company is seeking a dependable, experienced Commercial Electrician capable of performing electrical installations with limited supervision. This position is intended for a skilled commercial electrician—not an entry-level helper or residential only electricians.

The ideal candidate understands commercial electrical construction, can read plans, lay out work, install complete electrical systems, troubleshoot problems, and consistently produce code-compliant workmanship. Candidates must be reliable, maintain regular attendance, and have dependable transportation to assigned jobsites.

Primary Responsibilities

• Install electrical systems in new commercial construction, renovations, tenant buildouts, and service projects.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, details, legends, and applicable project notes.
• Lay out electrical work accurately using plans, dimensions, elevations, benchmarks, and field conditions.
• Install, bend, support, and terminate EMT, rigid metal conduit, PVC, flexible conduit, and other approved raceway systems.
• Perform conduit bending, including offsets, kicks, saddles, stub-ups, and multi-bend installations.
• Install underground electrical systems, including PVC conduit, sweeps, stub-ups, pull boxes, and equipment feeds.
• Install electrical systems in and above walls, ceilings, slabs, masonry, and exterior locations.
• Install and properly support boxes, conduits, cable assemblies, panels, disconnects, transformers, lighting systems, and related equipment.
• Pull, label, organize, terminate, and test conductors and cables.
• Install and terminate branch circuits, feeders, panels, transformers, disconnects, lighting controls, receptacles, switches, and equipment connections.
• Identify conductor sizes, conduit sizes, grounding requirements, overcurrent protection, and proper termination methods.
• Perform basic circuit tracing, troubleshooting, voltage testing, continuity testing, and electrical system verification.
• Maintain correct circuit identification, conductor labeling, panel schedules, and field documentation.
• Coordinate electrical work with general contractors, inspectors, other trades, and company leadership.
• Identify plan conflicts, missing information, unsuitable field conditions, and potential change-order work before proceeding.
• Communicate material shortages, manpower needs, delays, and field issues promptly.
• Follow project schedules, daily work assignments, and production expectations.
• Maintain an organized work area and protect completed work from damage.
• Use company tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials responsibly.
• Follow all company safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and jobsite-specific safety policies.
• Assist with mentoring apprentices and less-experienced electricians when assigned.

Required Experience

Applicants should have:

• At least 7 years of commercial electrical construction experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working independently or with limited supervision.
• Experience reading and working directly from commercial electrical plans.
• Strong experience bending and installing EMT conduit.
• Experience installing above-ceiling, in-wall, underground, and exposed electrical systems.
• Experience with commercial branch circuits, feeders, panels, transformers, disconnects, and equipment connections.
• Working knowledge of grounding, bonding, conductor sizing, conduit fill, box fill, circuit identification, and electrical installation requirements.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and the ability to apply relevant code requirements in the field.
• Experience using multimeters, voltage testers, circuit tracers, fish tapes, knockout tools, threaders, benders, and standard electrical hand and power tools.
• Experience working around energized electrical equipment while following appropriate safety procedures and company policies.
• Experience coordinating work with other trades in an active commercial construction environment.

Required Qualifications

• Must be dependable and report to work on time as scheduled.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from assigned jobsites.
• Must maintain consistent attendance and communicate promptly when an emergency affects attendance.
• Must have a valid driver’s license when driving a company vehicle or performing duties requiring driving.
• Must possess the electrical hand tools normally expected of an experienced commercial electrician.
• Must be able to follow written plans, verbal instructions, specifications, and project requirements.
• Must be able to complete assigned work accurately and within reasonable production expectations.
• Must be able to identify unsafe conditions and stop work when necessary.
• Must communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, customers, inspectors, and other trades.
• Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a crew.
• Must demonstrate attention to detail and take responsibility for the quality of completed work.
• Must be willing to work overtime or adjusted schedules when project requirements demand it.
• Must be willing to travel to regional jobsites when assigned. (Generally anywhere from Pensacola to Panama City)
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current journeyman electrician license or recognized electrical certification.
• Aerial lift, scissor lift, or forklift certification.
• Experience leading small/large crews or directing apprentices and helpers.
• Experience with commercial service work and electrical troubleshooting.
• Experience with fire alarm, low-voltage, access-control, emergency-power, or lighting-control systems.
• Experience completing redlines, as-built documentation, daily reports, and material requests.
• Experience in ground up new builds

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

• Regularly lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms.
• Climb, bend, kneel, squat, reach, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, dust, and changing weather conditions.
• Work in ceilings, mechanical spaces, trenches, and other restricted areas when required.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, conduit benders, testing equipment, and construction equipment.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.

Compensation

Starting pay ranges from $25.00 to $32.00 per hour. Final compensation will be based on demonstrated commercial electrical experience, plan-reading ability, conduit-bending skills, leadership capabilities, certifications, and overall ability to perform the position.

Pay claims may be verified through the interview process, practical skill assessment, references, and previous employment history.
