Job Description

The Sun Lakes Country Club and HOA #1 Golf Course Mechanic position will assist our community by continuing to maintain the Golf Course in excellent playing condition year-round by performing essential duties as a Golf Course Mechanic and Greenskeeper.

The Golf Course Mechanic maintains and repairs the specialized machinery used to groom the golf course, such as mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles. This position will diagnose mechanical issues, sharpen blades, manage parts inventory, and ensure all equipment operates safely to prevent downtime during course operations.

Compensation

$21.00-$24.00 hourly

*Compensation based upon experience, skillset and certification.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 4:00 AM-12:30 PM (with the potential for additional weekend short shifts and/or overtime during reseeding).

Essential Duties

  • Perform preventative maintenance, including (but not limited to) routine servicing (oil changes, filter replacements, battery checks, lubrication) on gasoline, diesel, and electric equipment.
  • Sharpen (grind) Reel Mower blades and precisely adjust cutting units for optimal turf health and clean cuts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and electrical components.
  • Track parts usage, order replacement supplies, and manage a safe, organized maintenance shop, while maintaining excellent records.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and train grounds staff on the proper, safe operation of equipment
  • Provide recommendations to the Golf Course Superintendent regarding the need for new or replacement parts and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain golf course maintenance equipment, addressing complex issues and ensuring equipment reliability.
  • Document equipment repairs and replacement parts purchases as instructed.
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of all equipment, leases, etc.
  • Assist in training grounds staff on the safe and proper operation of maintenance equipment.
  • Perform adjustments to mowers accordingly.
  • Perform miscellaneous mechanical repairs.
  • Ensure daily assignments are completed to club standards, including keeping the course free of trash and debris.

Education

High school diploma or GED; vocational or trade school certification in diesel or small engine repair is highly preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 2 years of experience in golf course equipment or small engine repairs.

A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with various types of golf course maintenance equipment, including understanding replacement parts, supplies, and resources needed for equipment upkeep and repair.

Experience in adult community association (preferred).

Certificates and Licenses

Requires current and valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Equipment Utilized

Dual Express 1000 reel sharpener; Angle Master 3000 bed knife sharpener; rotary blade sharpener; power and hand tools, etc.

Software Utilized

Appropriated ability for the maintain of logs, inventory, etc.
