What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician / Receptionist position at Sun Hill Optical?
We are seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Optometric Technician/Receptionist to support both front-desk and clinical operations in a busy eye care practice.
Front Desk / Reception Duties
- Greet patients and create a welcoming first impression
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, check patients in and out
- Verify vision insurance eligibility and benefits
- Collect copays and payments; process invoices
- Maintain patient records (EHR systems)
- Handle referrals, authorizations, and follow-up calls/reminders
- Manage paperwork, forms, and scanning documents
- Process insurance claims and billing
- Ensure HIPAA compliance
- Support office workflow and assist team members as needed
Clinical / Technician Duties
- Perform pre-testing (visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry, retinal imaging as trained)
- Record patient medical and ocular history
- Educate patients on contact lens care and usage
- Train patients on inserting and removing contact lenses
- Maintain cleanliness and calibration of exam equipment
Qualifications:
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and comfort with EHR systems
- Prior optometry or medical office experience preferred (training provided)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
