CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN

Build Hawaii. Lead People. Take Pride in What You Leave Behind.

Sun Construction

Location: Hawaii Island, Hawaii

Position: Full-Time | Commercial Construction

Pay Range: $51.25-$64.60 Hourly (DOE)

YOUR NEXT PROJECT SHOULD BE MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER JOB.

At Sun Construction, we're building more than buildings.

We're building relationships, developing people, strengthening our community, and creating projects our employees can point to with pride for years to come.

We're looking for an experienced Construction Foreman who knows how to build--but, just as importantly, knows how to lead.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on construction professional who takes ownership of their work, earns the respect of their crew, solves problems, develops people, and believes that safety, quality, productivity, and teamwork all matter.

If you're the person others turn to when the job gets challenging--and you're ready to bring that leadership to a company committed to growing its people--we want to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a Sun Construction Foreman, you'll be one of the key leaders responsible for turning plans into successful projects.

You'll work closely with our Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and field teams to make sure work is performed safely, correctly, efficiently, and on schedule.

Lead the Crew

Set the tone every morning.

Communicate the day's goals, organize manpower, assign responsibilities, and make sure everyone understands what needs to be accomplished.

Lead from the front and create a jobsite where people know what's expected of them.

Plan Ahead

Great Foremen don't just manage today's work--they're already thinking about tomorrow.

Anticipate manpower, materials, equipment, tools, subcontractors, inspections, deliveries, and upcoming project needs so the crew can stay productive.

Own the Work

Take responsibility for your area of the project.

Monitor productivity, workmanship, safety, and schedule. Identify problems early and work with project leadership to develop solutions before small issues become major delays.

Lead Safety

At Sun Construction, safety is everyone's responsibility--but our field leaders set the standard.

Lead by example, conduct or participate in safety meetings, identify hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and make sure employees have the training, equipment, and PPE necessary to perform their work safely.

Production never comes before sending our people home safely.

Protect Quality

We want to build work and we're proud to put the Sun Construction name on.

Review drawings, specifications, details, and field conditions. Verify that work is installed correctly and hold the crew to a high standard of craftsmanship.

Build it right. Build it safely. Take pride in the finished product.

Solve Problems

Construction rarely goes exactly according to plan.

We want Foremen who don't stop at identifying a problem.

Bring solutions.

Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Project Manager to resolve field conditions, coordinate trades, maintain productivity, and keep the project moving forward.

Develop Your Crew

One of the most important responsibilities of a Sun Construction Foreman is developing the people around you.

Teach.

Coach.

Share what you know.

Give developing employees opportunities to take on responsibility.

Help apprentices and younger construction professionals understand not only how to perform the work, but why it's done that way.

A successful Foreman doesn't just build a great project.

A successful Foreman builds the next generation of Sun Construction leaders.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with solid construction knowledge and the leadership ability to turn that knowledge into results.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • Strong commercial construction experience.
  • Previous experience as a Construction Foreman, Lead Carpenter, or similar field leadership position.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and jobsite logistics.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and details.
  • Experience planning and coordinating manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices.
  • Ability to recognize potential problems and develop practical field solutions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain productivity while protecting safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, inspectors, customers, and field employees.
  • Basic comfort using smartphones, tablets, email, and construction-related technology.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, and other construction certifications are preferred.

THE SUN CONSTRUCTION WAY

Skills And Experience Matter.

Character matters too.

The people who succeed at Sun Construction demonstrate our core values every day.

TRUSTWORTHY

Do What You Say You're Going To Do.

We expect honesty, integrity, professionalism, and reliability. Your crew, coworkers, subcontractors, and customers should know they can depend on you.

ACCOUNTABLE

Take ownership.

Own your decisions, your crew, your work, your safety responsibilities, and your results.

When something goes wrong, don't look for someone to blame.

Help make it right.

COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

Bring energy and initiative.

We value people who don't need to be constantly told what to do next.

See what needs to happen, communicate it, and help move the project forward.

CAN DO ATTITUDE

Challenges are part of construction. Solutions are part of leadership.

Approach problems with a positive, practical mindset.

Instead of focusing on why something can't be done, help the team determine how we can accomplish the goal safely, correctly, and efficiently.

COMMITMENT TO SUCCESS

We succeed together.

Successful construction requires teamwork.

Make decisions that support the success of the project, our customer, your coworkers, and Sun Construction.

No individual is bigger than the team.

What Great Leadership Looks Like At Sun

We don't measure a Foreman's success only by how much work gets installed.

We also look at how the work gets accomplished.

A Successful Sun Construction Foreman

  • Creates a safe and organized jobsite.
  • Starts each day with a plan.
  • Communicates expectations clearly.
  • Holds people accountable while treating them with respect.

  • Communicates issues early.
  • Works collaboratively with project leadership.
  • Helps younger employees develop their skills.
  • Takes pride in representing Sun Construction.
  • Leaves the project--and the people on it--better than they found them.
