Position Summary:
The Mobile Assessment Team (MAT) Clinician is responsible for responding to, and providing, on-site psychiatric and substance use crisis assessments to ensure a patient receives the most appropriate level of care and treatment recommendation. The clinician is responsible for assessing and identifying behavioral, educational, developmental and psychosocial functioning of the patient and completing a clinical assessment using DSM criteria to determine best patient care.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)
- Responds to initial notification within 15 minutes when on call and arrives within one (1) hour of initial request for services from the referring provider.
- Completes the PASP tool within 45 minutes, preferably within 30 minutes.
- Identifies need for the additional screenings to include: Substance Use Screening, Nutritional Screening, Abuse Screening and Functional Abilities Screening. For child and adolescent population, identifies needs for educational and developmental screens.
- Demonstrates knowledge of admission criteria for inpatient, partial, intensive outpatient and traditional outpatient levels of care.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations to assist with the most appropriate disposition and care for the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing thorough and concise information to the attending physician to secure treatment recommendation and disposition of the assessment.
- Ensures that each patient, regardless of recommended treatment is either seen by a physician or has a consult completed with a physician.
- Demonstrates knowledge of community resources and offers a minimum of three (3) referrals for outpatient resources when not deemed a psychiatric or medical emergency risk requiring a higher level of treatment.
- Ability to state local laws, ordinances, and practices governing involuntary hospitalization and ensure compliance with same.
- Ability to state the procedure for managing medical and psychiatric emergencies according to EMTALA guidelines along with facility policies and procedures.
- Accurately documents all information related to a medical/psychiatric emergency transfer to include Memorandum of Transfers, consent/refusal for care, progress notes, MD consultation and signature.
- Demonstrates understanding of MAT schedule to include working 4 shifts per month and request for time off policies.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
- Maintains a good working relationship/team work both within the department and with other departments.
- Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA.
- Demonstrates understanding of Patient’s Rights to Report and Patient Advocacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
- Required: Masters degree in a mental health related field, or current RN license in the state of employment. Current state license in the state of employment in clinical social work, counseling license or per state of practice guidelines.
- Preferred: Current state license in the state of employment in clinical social work, or counseling license in states without required license regulations.
- Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
Experience
- Required: Minimum two (2) years of supervised clinical experience. Current driver’s license with less than 2 violations in the past two years.
- Preferred: Assessment and evaluation experience preferred.
