1. Overall Purpose of the Position

The Shipping and Receiving employee is responsible for all outbound and inbound shipping activities at Central Coated Products, ensuring accurate order fulfillment, ERP system transactions, food-safe handling of finished goods, and safe loading/unloading using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment. This role ensures on-time shipments, accurate documentation, proper trailer inspections, and full compliance with food safety (GMP), quality, and company safety standards.


2. Major Tasks and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Order Fulfillment & Documentation

  • Accurately combine, quantify, and record all customer orders; notify Production/Planning of shortages or discrepancies.
  • Generate and verify packing lists, bills of lading, pallet tags, serial/lot tags, and shipping worksheets.
  • Ensure all documents are complete, accurate, legible, and approved prior to shipment.
  • Perform final quality checks on packaging, labeling, and product identification.

ERP & Inventory Transactions

  • Accurately enter all shipping and receiving transactions into the ERP system including:
    • Finished goods shipments
    • Raw material and packaging receipts
    • Inventory transfers and adjustments
    • Lot traceability and order closure
  • Maintain real-time inventory accuracy and support cycle counts and physical inventories.

Trailer & Load Management

  • Inspect all incoming and outgoing trailers for cleanliness, damage, odors, moisture, pests, and food safety compliance.
  • Document trailer inspections using approved forms/stamps.
  • Apply and record load seals; verify seal integrity for multi-stop loads.

Material Handling Equipment

  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes (as trained and authorized).
  • Load and unload trailers without product damage.
  • Secure finished goods to pallets per CCP standards and weight distribution requirements.

Shipping & Receiving Operations

  • Receive incoming materials and packaging; verify against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Report and document shortages, damages, and discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized dock flow and staging areas to support production and logistics.

Food Safety, GMP & Quality Compliance

  • Follow all GMP, food safety, hygiene, and contamination-control requirements.
  • Maintain proper segregation of food-contact materials and non-conforming product.
  • Control dock access and manage drivers/visitors within food safety zones.
  • Participate in audits and support traceability exercises as required.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Maintain the condition and safe operation of all shipping assets including forklifts, cranes, racks, dock plates, banding tools, and scales.
  • Keep the shipping and dock areas clean, organized, and audit-ready at all times.
  • File executed shipping and receiving documents in designated locations.
  • Cross-train in other operational roles as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by supervision.

3. Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing logistics experience preferred.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing or GMP environment strongly preferred.
  • Prior ERP system experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of shipping, receiving, and inventory control processes.
  • Understanding of lot control and traceability.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely (certification required).
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Commitment to food safety, quality, and on-time customer delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervision, production, and drivers.

4. Communications and Influence

  • Communicate shipment status, shortages, and discrepancies to Production, Planning, and Logistics.
  • Interact professionally with trucking companies, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.

5. Accountability Measures

  • On-time shipment performance.
  • ERP transaction accuracy and inventory integrity.
  • Documentation quality and audit results.
  • Pounds shipped per labor hour.
  • Compliance with food safety, GMP, and safety standards.

6. Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other powered industrial equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and dock conditions.

7. Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to:
    • Powered industrial trucks and overhead cranes
    • Moving mechanical parts
    • Dock traffic and trailer loading areas
    • Moderate noise levels
  • Required use of appropriate PPE and adherence to all safety and food safety policies.

8. Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Forklift certification (company provided/maintained).
  • Overhead crane training (if applicable).
  • GMP and food safety training.
  • ERP system training.
