- Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic, for the district.
- Provides leadership and assists principal in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Assumes responsibility for contracting officials, team physicians, and law enforcement as required, and assumes general responsibility for the supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verifies each athlete's eligibility.
- Provides information to the principal in preparation and administration of the athletic program budget.
- Provides for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season.
- Administers the insurance program covering school athletes, and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
- Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships; plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.

Qualifications: Minimum of three years of coaching experience. Must possess or demonstrate the qualifications to obtain South Carolina educator certification. Such alternatives to these qualifications as the Board may find acceptable.
Reports To: Principal
Length of Service: 233 days
Rate of Pay: Based upon credentials and experience in accordance with the district-approved pay schedule.
Salary Scale Range: $73,609.36 - $117,711.60
Performance Responsibilities:
Terms: Salary and work year to be recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Sumter School District Board policy.
