The ideal candidate will provide leadership in the development of a competitive and positive program, focusing on student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, and academic success.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the boys cross country program, including practices, meets, and team events.
- Promote a culture of discipline, teamwork, and respect.
- Develop training programs to improve individual and team performance.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with athletes, parents, athletic staff, and school administration.
- Ensure student-athletes meet eligibility requirements and adhere to Sumter School District and SCHSL athletic policies.
- Collaborate with assistant coaches, trainers, and strength & conditioning staff.
- Oversee the maintenance and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
- Promote and uphold the values of leadership, character, and academic excellence.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- Previous coaching or competitive running experience required (Head coaching experience preferred).
- Knowledge of cross country training methods, conditioning, and injury prevention.
- Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a role model.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Must meet all Sumter School District and SCHSL coaching requirements (CPR/First Aid, NFHS certifications, etc.).
- Ability to pass background and fingerprint clearance checks.
