JOB TITLE: Fleet Technician

CLASSIFICATION: Civilan

SUPERVISED BY: Fleet Lead Techician

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Fleet Technician is a civilian position responsible for the office’s fleet

operations. This position aids in planning, coordinating, and delivering fleet

services, providing safe, reliable and economically sound transportation and

related support services. This position coordinates office vehicle maintenance

with personnel and outside vehicle repair facilities.

DUTIES:

A. Completes work orders to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, to discuss work to be performed and

future repair requirements.

B. Diagnoses complex vehicle and equipment systems such as braking, climate control, electrical and

electronics, steering and driveline, and etc. to determine repair requirements.

C. Complies with safety programs to ensure all equipment and tools are used in a safe manner as well as

ensuring compliance with county, state, federal regulations and accreditation standards.

D. Ensures repairs and / or replaces faulty, defective or worn parts, components and systems of Fleet

vehicles and equipment, when directed.

E. Ensures the proper stripping of the vehicles and any additional equipment.

F. Successfully completes all assignments to specifications within a specified timeframe and budget as

directed and in accordance with office guidelines.

G. Perform any additional duties that may be required by the Sheriff or designee through necessity of

situations.

JOB PREREQUISITES:

A. High School Diploma or GED. Clerical experience/inventory control is preferred.

B. Four (4) or more years related experience.

C. Knowledge of automotive industry and auto mechanics.

D. Must obtain Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) certification as required by Sheriff’s Office or

direction of Fleet Lead Technician within one year of assignment.

E. Valid FL Driver’s License

F. Ability to type and to prioritize work.

G. Five (5) ASE Certifications and one (1) Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification within the

first year.

H. Must meet qualifications of Technician I.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and writing.

B. Ability to use initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.

C. Ability to prepare and maintain maintenance records including technical manuals, parts inventory and

repair records.

D. Knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance and servicing

and components.

E. Knowledge of parts requirements and parts compatibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Ability to frequently push, pull, lift and / or carry equipment, tools, supplies and other materials

weighing up to 100 lbs.

B. Must also possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to use hands and arms to

finger, handle, grasp and feel; climb into, out of and under vehicles, and to operate vehicles, computers,

tools and any other equipment that is used to perform the essential functions of the job.

C. Must be required to be on call and to respond to any fleet break downs.
