What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sergeant - Corrections position at Sumter County Board of Commissioners?
The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Sergeant. This position is responsible for supervising and assisting Correctional Officers on an assigned shift, or overseeing special details. Major duties include but are not limited to assuring adherence to department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; monitors performance of assigned personnel; Participates in and supervises the wok of personnel engaged in guarding, monitoring, searching, disciplining, and escorting inmates on an assigned shift; disciplines, counsels, and recommends termination of assigned staff; assists in approving subordinates annual leave; Prepares written reports concerning incidences of inmate infractions, disturbances, or injures; Performs mandatory headcount, assists subordinate personnel with difficult or complex situations, may employ weapons or fore to maintain discipline and order among inmates if necessary.
Minimum qualifications include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education; Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years experience or service; Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must currently possess P.O.S.T Certification. Must be able to work flexible hours.
