Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to join our dedicated eye care team. Duties
- Perform patient intake by collecting comprehensive medical histories and updating electronic medical records (EyeMD EMR)
- Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, ensuring aseptic technique is maintained at all times
- Conduct visual acuity tests, refraction assessments, and other optical evaluations to support accurate diagnoses
- Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post-procedure care with clear communication and empathy
- Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation of clinical findings, coding, billing, and insurance information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow,
Experience
- Proven clinic experience as an ophthalmic assistant or in a similar medical office setting with a focus on ophthalmology preferred
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the eye and visual system
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical coding, billing processes, and EMR systems
- Experience with optical procedures including refraction testing and optical device handling
- Ability to perform intake assessments accurately while demonstrating excellent patient care skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times
