5th GRADE TEACHER SUMMITVIEW ELEMENTARY
Must meet the federal Highly Qualified Teaching requirements:
- Has earned at least a bachelor's degree
- Holds full state certification
- Has demonstrated subject matter knowledge and teaching skill in each core academic subject assigned to teach
Qualifications:
- Valid Washington state teaching certificate.
- Experience with intermediate grade levels preferred
- Experience with HMH into Reading ELA curriculum.
- Experience with Ready Math Curriculum
- Knowledge of Washington state grade level expectation for reading, math, science, and writing.
- Experience in upper elementary grade level
- Knowledge and experience administering and interpreting data from SBAC, iReady Math and Reading, DIBELS and other assessments for the purpose of planning instruction and assessment preparation.
- Knowledge and experience with differentiating instruction with differentiation, intervention and small groups using instructional data for planning.
- Knowledge and experience with various technology tools for use in the classroom.
- Ability to incorporate technology into a variety of lessons encouraging innovative thinking and practice.
- Proven ability to handle student discipline issues and willingness to brainstorm solutions to discipline concerns with the building behavior team.
- Be a contributing member of the 5th grade team and willing to maintain a common pace of instruction
- Collaborate with team, principal and instructional coach on grouping of students based on various data points for the correct placement for intervention groups.
- Willing to implement restorative and PBIS practices that the Summitview team has determined will be used school-wide.
- Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom, as well as with parents and community members.
- Recent ESD 105 science training/knowledge in the NGSS. In addition to STEM/GLAD teaching strategies and practices
- Demonstrate commitment to success for all students
- Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive line of communication with parents/guardians regarding concerns and achievements.
- Be a contributing member of the staff, attend staff meetings, willing to take on extra assignments and help brainstorm solutions to concerns.
- ELL Endorsement preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Evidence of effective classroom management strategies
Working Relationships
Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Team up with grade-level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement. Cooperate with the building administrator in the observation and evaluation process. When working with instructional paraprofessionals, provide appropriate lesson plans and activity supervision. May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.
Working Conditions
The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, be exposed to a computer display terminal for prolonged periods, and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise students, bus loading/unloading; attend to students’ personal hygiene; may be required to deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning or disinfecting compounds; required to work in non-routine positions for extended periods.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere
