What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Purchaser / Coordinator position at Summit Steel, Inc.?
We’re a small structural steel shop looking for someone to handle all material and supply ordering. This is not a desk-only job—you’ll be in the shop and yard making sure everything is here, organized, and ready to go.
If you miss things, forget orders, or wait until we’re out of material, this won’t work. If you stay on top of details and take ownership, you’ll do well here.
What you’ll do:
- Order beams, columns, plate, and tubing for jobs
- Keep track of what’s on hand and what’s needed next
- Work with steel suppliers on pricing and lead times
- Schedule deliveries and check orders when they arrive
- Keep the yard and shop materials organized
- Stay ahead so the crew never runs out of what they need
What we need:
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Reliable—shows up and follows through
- Good communication with suppliers and shop crew
- Comfortable working in a shop/yard environment
Bonus if you have:
- Structural steel or fabrication shop experience
- Knowledge of beam sizes, plate, and materials
- Purchasing or inventory background
This is a key role in a small crew. What you do directly affects whether jobs move or stop.
