What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forklift Operator/Material Handler position at Summit Steel Inc.?
Location: Sioux City, IA
Hours: Mon–Fri occasional overtime
We’re looking for a dependable, hard-working person to help in our metal fabrication shop and yard. This is a hands-on job working with structural steel and fabricated parts.
What you’ll do:
- Load/unload steel materials using forklifts and overhead cranes (training provided)
- Assist in setting up, loading, and monitoring automated beam lines (training provided)
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on beam line machinery (training provided)
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following housekeeping procedures
- Use tape measurers to verify part dimensions and ensure cut accuracy
- Assist with inventory checks and material staging as needed
- Keep materials organized and the shop clean
What we need:
- Must work at least 40 hours per week, with overtime flexibility as required
- Basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Physically able to lift up to 50lbs regularly, stand or walk for up to 10 hours per day
- Comfortable working indoors & outdoors
- Pays attention and works safe
Bonus if you have:
- Forklift and overhead crane experience
- Steel yard or fabrication shop background
