What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiology Technologist position at Summit Medical Center LLC?
Responsible for following established procedures and protocols in a fast-paced hospital imaging department. The technologist performs diagnostic radiographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury across the hospital, including inpatient, outpatient, operating room, and emergency department settings.
The scope of the position includes using proper patient identification, verifying the correct exam, explaining procedures to patients, accurately operating imaging equipment, demonstrating clinical and age-specific competencies, and selecting appropriate technical factors for optimal image quality. The technologist is responsible for practicing radiation safety in the operation of radiation-emitting equipment and reviewing images for interpretation.
This position requires the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple requests, and respond effectively to emergent and routine imaging needs throughout the hospital, including the emergency department, as needed. The employee may also assist in other areas/modalities of the department as requested and must remain current on competencies for on-call, after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage as applicable.
- Reviews and interprets physician order for the diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately and requests corrected order from physician office if order is not correct.
- Validates all patient identification before performing any diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately.
- Communicates with patient to obtain medical history and/or specific medical information that is pertinent to the procedure and/or patient’s well-being during the procedure.
- Validates proper working conditions and technical factors of all imaging equipment and procedure room.
- Reviews paperwork with patient prior to exam & explains procedure to patient to facilitate patient cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety; ensures patient safety.
- Assumes responsibility for patient care during the imaging procedure to include infection control and proper PPE.
- Follows procedure protocols and policies and procedures in performing diagnostic x-ray procedures within the radiology department, pain department, and operating room.
- Demonstrates competence in collimation, patient positioning, and radiation safety to reduce radiation exposure as much as possible.
- Practices radiation safety for patients, family, visitors, and self.
- Critiques all images for image quality for interpretation.
- Actively participates in the Quality Assurance program(s).
- Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities and handles them promptly.
- Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the department, facility, and outside facilities working with our department.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures and modalities - assist in other areas as needed.
- Participates in on-call as needed to support the department/facility.
