What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacist position at Summit Medical Center LLC?
A staff pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care and clinical support to hospital patients by reviewing medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications, and collaborating with providers and nursing staff to ensure safe and effective medication use. This role supports timely patient care through medication management, consultation, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. This role includes an on-call component, and call-backs may happen. This role may be a combination of days, nights, and weekends depending on the needs of the pharmacy department as it expands into providing emergency and critical care.
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
Current pharmacist license in the State of Wyoming
Previous hospital pharmacy or emergency department experience preferred
Current BLS certification within 3 months of hire
Strong knowledge of pharmacology, medication safety, and sterile/non-sterile medication preparation
1. Reviews and verifies medication orders for appropriateness, dosage, interactions, allergies, and therapeutic duplication.
2. Prepares, dispenses, compounds, and distributes medications in accordance with hospital and pharmacy policies.
3. Provides clinical consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members regarding medication therapy.
4. Supports medication management for hospital patients, including urgent and high-acuity cases.
5. Assists with medication reconciliation, patient counseling, and discharge medication planning as appropriate.
6. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and hospital regulations related to medication use and storage.
7. Monitors medication inventories, controlled substances, and crash cart/restocking processes as assigned.
8. Responds promptly to stat medication requests and emergency medication needs.
9. Documents pharmaceutical interventions, medication-related activities, and clinical recommendations accurately.
10. Participates in quality improvement, medication safety, and policy review activities.
11. Collaborates with staff of other departments to support efficient patient care and safe medication administration.
12. Behaves and dresses in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
