What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy Technician position at Summit Medical Center LLC?
The endoscope technician is responsible for providing the appropriate instruments and supplies to perform the scheduled procedure according to the physician’s preferred routine for that procedure. Prepares the operating field for the procedure. Works cooperatively with the physician during the procedure.
Current Nursing Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Certification
Minimum of two years patient care experience.
BLS certification required
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I - exposure to blood-borne pathogens and/or other potentially infectious material, frequent exposure to chemical hazards, and potential exposure to radiation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adheres to the endoscopy procedure requirements and technician job duties as assigned.
2. Assembles necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physician’s preference card. Prepares GI room according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
3. Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment function.
4. Documents records and other forms accurately adhering to approved policies and procedures.
5. Communicates information regarding patient status to other staff members responsible for patient care.
6. Maintains aseptic technique in opening sterile packages and when performing duties in preparation for the procedure.
7. Assist physicians and/or RN in endoscopic and pain procedures.
8. Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
9. Collect specimens from patients using standard precautions and specimen handling guidelines.
10. Observes all safety measures in patient care activities.
11. Performs required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care utilization and sterilization procedures per manufactures recommendations and facility standards.
12. Handles and stores equipment and instruments per manufactures recommendations.
13. Transfers, moves, and repositions patients.
14. Maintains and updates physicians’ preference cards.
15. Maintains documentation to verify proper disinfection/sterilization of equipment and instruments.
16. Maintains standard to provide safe, clean and orderly environment.
17. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.
18. Other duties may be assigned.
