Maintenance Assistant/Porter

Position Summary:

*This position is required to live onsite (rent-free) in a one-bedroom apartment at one of our communities in the Portage Lakes area in Akron, OH.*

Summit Management Services, Inc. is hiring a Porter/Maintenance Assistant to help at a few of our residential apartment communities in Akron, OH. This role is responsible for ensuring the physical aspects of the property are maintained by cleaning the common grounds of the property in order to enhance and maintain curb appeal. This position is also responsible for functioning in a support role to the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of market ready units, including remove trash from vacant apartments (trash outs) prior to make-ready.
• Responsible for meticulous upkeep of grounds, landscaping, amenities, building exteriors and leasing office, parking lots and other community buildings; meticulous curb appeal is a must at all times
• Assist Maintenance/Property Manager and/or perform assigned maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
• Cleans carpets in resident apartments.
• Communicates with supervisor regarding the status of work and any potential issues.
• Ensures maintenance supplies are in stock and orders supplies, as directed.
• Distributes resident communications to residents when requested by the manager; e.g., upcoming events, pest control notices, newsletters
• Ensures excellent customer service to prospective residents and tenants, and promotes a quality living experience for all residents.
• Participate in Company-provided training such as fair housing, safety, non-discrimination, and harassment prevention.
• Comply with all Company Policies, any applicable rules and regulations, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws
• Other work duties, as may be assigned by property manager

Position Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• A minimum of 2 years of experience working as porter in residential apartment communities is preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal in English
• Knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
• Good human relations skills and ability to work well with others
