The Systems Technician serves a dual-function role spanning project closeout and ongoing system support, ensuring Summit-installed AVL systems are fully commissioned, documented, and transitioned for long-term success.
During the final phase of Design/Build projects, this role is responsible for testing, commissioning, validating, and documenting AVL systems to ensure alignment with design intent and readiness for client handoff. Following project completion, the Systems Technician provides first-line technical support and delivers contracted services under established SLAs, maintaining and optimizing system performance for existing clients.
The Systems Technician works under the direction of the Systems & Support Lead and serves as a hands-on technical resource across Commissioning, Support, and Services. This role emphasizes execution, documentation, cross-functional coordination, and high-quality customer interaction while adhering to Summit standards and service methodologies.
All essential functions must be performed without endangering the health and/or safety of the individual or others.
Definitions
Commissioning: Installation commissioning support for Engineering and Solution Architect teams, acting as the technical bridge between Installation, Engineering, and the client to verify system performance, validate design intent, complete system testing, and support project handoff.
Support: Post-install warranty support, including remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of installed systems, coordination with manufacturers on warranty-related issues, and resolution of issues related to Summit's installation workmanship during the warranty period.
Service(s): Contracted offerings that provide proactive, ongoing, or expanded support beyond standard Support, including maintenance plans, system calibration, upgrades, and on-site services.

Responsibilities
- System Commissioning & Validation – Executes commissioning activities for newly installed AVL systems, including final wire testing, system startup, signal flow verification, device configuration validation, and functional testing against design intent. Identifies and resolves deficiencies in coordination with Engineering and Installation teams.
- Project Closeout & Punch List – Supports project closeout by identifying, documenting, and resolving punch list items. Ensures proper system labeling, stable network performance, and resolution of intermittent issues prior to client handoff.
- Documentation & Handoff – Assists in validating commissioning documentation, including saving system configurations, documenting test results, and ensuring all field changes are accurately reflected in as-built documentation. Facilitates smooth transition to Support teams and client stakeholders.
- Customer Support – Responds to customer support requests via centralized channels, troubleshooting Summit-installed AVL systems and resolving issues efficiently. Assists with warranty-related repairs and escalates complex issues as needed.
- Internal IT Support – Provides frontline IT support for Summit staff, including troubleshooting Macs, iPads, and Windows PCs for in-office, remote, and traveling team members. Supports asset tracking and software management.
- Customer Experience & Escalation – Upholds Summit's high standards for responsiveness, professionalism, and clarity in all interactions. Escalates complex or ambiguous issues to internal teams, manufacturers, or leadership as appropriate.
- Service Scope & Delivery – Exercises judgment to distinguish Support from Services within defined scope boundaries. Performs contracted service work including preventative maintenance, system calibration, upgrades, and on-site services.
- Logging & Documentation – Accurately logs all commissioning, support, and service activities in designated systems, including troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and outcomes.
- Knowledge Contribution – Follows established procedures and contributes feedback to improve internal documentation, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base resources.
- Team Collaboration – Coordinates with Installation, Assembly, Engineering, and Solution Architect teams to support commissioning, issue resolution, and service delivery.

- Required: 2 years of experience in AVL Technology, Information Technology, or a related field
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Preferred: Certifications in AVL systems, networking, or system integration
- Required: OSHA 10 Certification
- Long periods of sitting and/or standing
- Ability to lift moderate weight and up to 75/90 lbs occasionally
- Frequent hand movement and repetitive tasks
- Travel may require extended standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights (6 feet)
- Exposure to job site conditions including dust, noise, uneven terrain, and varying weather
- Use of personal protective equipment required on job sites
