Job Summary
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating communications throughout the hospital and associated facilities during both emergency events and day-to-day operations. This position acts as a central point of contact for outside agencies during emergencies, with vendors and contractors for facility access and for visitors and patients with problems or concerns.
Essential Functions
- Answers/routes incoming and outgoing phone calls via the main switchboard.
- Dispatches security guards where needed.
- Issues employee identification badges.
- Monitors the security camera system for unusual events and activities.
- Directs patients and visitors to designated areas.
- Uses handheld radios and the overhead public announcement (PA) system to communicate with staff.
- Makes code announcements as required.
- Issues temporary access badges to vendors and contactors.
- Coordinates communications with police and fire departments.
Other Duties
- Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in-services, including staff meetings, association forums, and seminars.
- Reviews department and hospital wide policies and procedures annually.

Abilities
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English.
- Proficient in radio communications protocol.
- Ability to become proficient in security camera digital footage retrieval and storage.
- Operational knowledge of all equipment in the Security department, including: security cameras, printer, copy machine, phone systems, radios, and PA system.
- This employee must be service oriented and have excellent customer service, computer, organizational, multitasking, time management and professional interpersonal skills, along with the ability to prioritize work.
- Must abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations.
- This employee must be able to function in a high stress area with multiple priorities and multiple sources of request, with a fast pace in decision making.

Physical Demands
Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of Sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Worker is exposed to extensive computer work.
Required Education and Experience
- One (1) year related experience.
