SUPERINTENDENT, BESS

Job Description:

The primary roles are to oversee the contractors and OEMs delivery, installation, quality, and startup of a Battery Energy Storage System. To act as the Owner’s representative to oversee aspects of the energy storage system including site work, installation, status reporting, safety, quality control, startup, commissioning, testing and project close out (note the Owner will contract a turnkey EPC, this role will oversee the EPC and OEMs on the Owner's behalf). Employees in this role coordinate and report on construction, installation and commissioning work performed by contractors and/or vendors at the project site.

Reports to:

Construction Manager, Engineering and Construction

Preferred Background:

· Engineering or professional electrical career in power systems construction and startup with min 5-year of experience in renewable power plants and energy storage systems and commissioning

· A background with BESS is required

· Experience with SCADA is preferred

Required Skillsets:

· Battery Energy Storage Systems installation and startup

· Must have a thorough understanding of the technical, performance, and integration of Li-Ion batteries as part of ESS

· Understanding of containerized systems, skids, controllers/SCADA, transformers, combiners

· Capable of quality control inspections and punch-list management

· Thorough understanding of DC systems (0-2,000Vdc) and AC systems (480V-34.5kV)

· Familiarity to troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial electronic equipment (protection relays, inverters, BMS, etc.).

· Experience with control and SCADA systems and troubleshooting

· Organization

· Computer skills MS word, Excel, and MS PowerPoint

· Communication to third parties and executives

· Schedule and planning understanding

· Electrical Code, means and methods

· Must possess a valid driver's license

Job Responsibilities:

· Participates in site safety program and audits

· Performs detailed system quality control inspections for completeness of installation vs. install manuals, engineering specifications and drawings and maintain detailed punch-list

· Performs system walkdowns for mechanical complete prior to turnover or energization

· Oversee the EPC and OEM commissioning procedures, status, and compliance

· Assist in troubleshooting commissioning anomalies as the owner’s representative

· Preparation and review of project close out and testing documents

· Reporting daily, weekly, and monthly on progress, indicators, and recovery plans to upper management

· Interfaces with project's designated management committees or third parties, and acts as lead Company representative of project activities

· Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

· Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods on construction jobsites.

· Ability to traverse uneven terrain and work in varied weather conditions typical of outdoor construction environments.

· Ability to distinguish color‑coded wiring where required for safety‑critical electrical work, with reasonable accommodation where feasible.

· Ability to wear required PPE and comply with all site safety protocols.
