What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Summit Academy?
Facilitate positive student responses to normal development, promote health and safety, intervene with actual and potential health issues, and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learning.
Essential Duties
- Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness, dispene students' prescribed medication.
- Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities.
- Educate students and staff on health habits, such as proer nutritiona nd hygiene in the classroom.
- Provide training to designated staff on recognition of signs and symptoms of illness and disease.
- Provide referrals to parents or staff for intervention of abnormal or worrying conditions affecting students.
- Assist in the formation of health pokicies, goals and objectives for the school.
- Perform health assessments and participate in IEP development.
- Maintain and track students' vaccinatino records; update students' medical history.
- Train school personnel on First Aid, CPR and the use of the AED.
- Ensure school environment is safe for students and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases).
- Ensure compliance with national and local health laws.
- Participate in meetings and training as needed
- Assist with student meal plan
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Massachusetts RN Nursing License
- Minimum of 1 year experience in public health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing.
- Certified in Basic Life Support
- Valid Driver's License
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
