Purpose Statement

The Director of Facilities and Safety is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all facility grounds at Summit Academy’s four campuses (LEA). The Director is responsible for directing and implementing long-term planning, construction, and routine maintenance of all facilities within the LEA. The Director is also responsible for oversight of risk management, safety, and security to ensure compliance with all LEA, local, State, and Federal regulations. The Director will also facilitate necessary training and evaluation of all facility services staff.


Essential Functions

·        Prepare reports and materials for long-term planning and respond to requests as required.

·        Implement 5-year goals, policies, and guidelines that pertain to LEA facilities.

·        Provide leadership and direction in planning and inspecting new construction, as well as routine maintenance.

·        Ensure that LEA procurement policies are implemented, cost effectiveness, accounting procedures and all other measures.

·        Support the LEA’s efforts to communicate effectively and disseminate periodic communication to personnel, as required.

·        Monitor and manage allocated budgets for the LEA (Projects, Routine Maintenance, and Safety).

·        Provide leadership and direction in the operation of buildings, grounds, and equipment to assure adequate maintenance for physical facilities and property of the LEA.

·        Provide proper management of materials and equipment inventories.

·        Coordinate all training aspects related to safety.

·        Project the yearly pupil transportation needs and costs.

·        Ensure compliance and provide reporting to LEA, local, State, and Federal agencies (e.g State Fire Marshall, Risk Management, Workers’ Compensation, ADA, EPA, OSHA etc.)

·        Keep abreast of current developments in facility and safety management through participation in local, State, and Federal training programs and organizations.

·        Evaluate, develop and implement safety practices to ensure to ensure updated and efficient practices/procedures are in place.  

·        Develop, maintain, and facilitate training for the LEA emergency response plan and other related training, protocols, safety measures, and precautions.

·        Plan, prepare, and present safety reports to management and LEA leadership.

·        Collaborate with Business Administrator and Director to implement a safety protocol budget.

Other Functions

·        Perform other related duties for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the LEA.


Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

·        Requires a valid Utah Drivers License

·        This position requires punctual and regular daily attendance.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


Skills are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade

skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to

satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

·        Operation of standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

·        Knowledge and experience using all types of construction and maintenance equipment currently operating at all campuses.

·        Basic knowledge of OSHA and Utah Labor Commission regulations, rules, and policies (30-Hour OSHA Certification preferred.)

·        Ability to perform root cause analysis to determine the cause of accidents and injuries.

·        Ability to write clear and professional reports and correspondence.

·        Ability to coordinate projects, manage project team activities and communicate progress.

·        ICC Certification (Highly Preferred, not required)


Knowledge

·        Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.

·        Read a variety of manuals

·        Write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems.

Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include concepts of grammar and punctuation, and modern office practices, procedures and equipment, and accounting practices.


Ability is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; often gather, collate, and/or

classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others

in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes;

and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a

diversity of individuals and/or groups; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues, create action plans, and set priorities with deadlines and schedules.


Responsibilities include

·        Working under limited supervision while following standardized practices and/or methods.

·        Leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others.

·        Utilizing resources from other departments, as needed, to perform the job's functions.

·        Guiding impact on the organization’s services.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following

physical demands:

·        Some lifting (Minimum 10 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and significant fine finger dexterity.

·        Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, and 30% standing.

·        This job will require occasional driving.

·        This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.


Physical Requirements -not limited to the following:

·        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

·        Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

·        Possess the physical, mental, and emotional stability to work under stressful conditions, including but not limited to: deadlines, contract requirements, inspection requirements, and interaction with critical personnel.
