What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic position at Summerville Commissioners of Public Works (SCPW)?
Position Objective:
The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in the wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment plant, and water distribution system.
Typical Work Hours: Monday – Thursday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm (along with weekly rotating on-call.)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Routine pump station maintenance including rebuilding of submersible and lift pumps
- Instrumentation maintenance and repair
- Operates vactor, crane, and boom trucks; operates pump stations; uses hand and power tools
- System monitoring via the SCADA system.
- Enters and exits confined spaces to include wet wells and manholes
- Other duties include building maintenance, operation of heavy equipment, and recordkeeping.
- Maintenance Mechanics participate in a weekly on-call duty rotation requiring after hours and weekend duty, rotating approximately every 5-6 weeks
Desirable Training and Experience:
- Experience in mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Knowledge and experience with hand and power tools
- Experience with a variety of pump types and motors
- A South Carolina Wastewater Collections Operator license
- A South Carolina CDL Class B
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED and a valid SC driver’s license
