What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2nd Shift Yard position at Summertown Metals?
Summertown Metals is looking for an individual to work our Second Shift Yard. This is a full time position which is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, vision, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, STD, LTD, vacation and PTO.
Duties include, but are not limited to
- Pull remaining job packages for 1st trucks.
- Load 1ST trucks.
- Unload freight [when asked for help by Andy or Josiah]
- Perform daily lift inspection.
- The operator is to remove the assigned job from the job box location. Upon receiving the work order, follow the Yard Job Delivery Board process.
- In a safe and efficient manner, pull the materials on the work order and stage them neatly in the load staging area, or load directly on truck if applicable. During the process of pulling, be aware of material defects and notify the appropriate personnel if any defects are found. Be extremely cautious with metal [use straps for lengths over 25ft] if any is damaged during the process, please notify And Josiah or Blaine Ray in the metal shop so the material can be replaced. (If any material is missing or damaged, the job cannot be considered staged or ready to ship)
- Any units or truss packs removed to get the correct bundle should be returned immediately and partial lumber bundles left in a neat organized manner. [see truss process]
- It is the responsibility of this operator to make sure that the staged job is properly identified. With a permanent marker, write the job number and customer name on each grouping of material. Also, write the quantity and name of material that are in that unit on bundle. This will make it easier for the truck loader and quality checker to identify the material. This will also assist the drivers that may have more than one job per truck.
- This position requires the operator to be self-directed and self-motivated.

- Communicate any material shortages, material damages or night-time issues on board and via message to day shift yard leader before leaving for the night.
