Position Summary
The Saw Operator is responsible for operating saw equipment to accurately cut paper tubes and cores to customer specifications. This position ensures products meet quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate automatic and manual saw equipment to cut paper tubes and cores to specified lengths.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and product specifications.
- Measure finished products using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring devices to ensure accuracy.
- Inspect products for quality, defects, and compliance with customer specifications.
- Remove scrap materials and maintain a clean work area.
- Package finished products or transfer them to the next production process.
- Perform routine machine adjustments and notify maintenance of equipment malfunctions.
- Complete production and quality documentation as required.
- Follow all safety policies, machine guarding requirements, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Assist with other production duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing or machine operating experience preferred.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions and production orders.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Dependable with good attendance and a strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
- Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently bend, stoop, twist, and reach.
- Use hands for grasping, handling, and operating machinery.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving mechanical equipment.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to moving machinery, paper dust, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Overtime is mandatory and weekend work may be required to meet production schedules.
Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all Company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Participate in required safety meetings and training.
- Never bypass or remove machine guards or safety devices.
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout procedures before servicing or cleaning equipment.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
Performance Expectations
- Produce accurate cuts that meet customer specifications.
- Meet established production goals.
- Maintain high quality standards with minimal scrap.
- Demonstrate safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Read a tape measure to 1/32 inch
- Convert fractions to decimals
- Read work orders and production labels
- Perform saw blade changes (after proper Lockout/Tagout)
- Use calipers and go/no-go gauges
- Operate overhead crane or forklift (if certified)
- Complete quality inspection records
