Summary:
Performs and coordinates a variety of clerical duties, particularly in connection with preparing, compiling and maintaining of patient records; functions as a receptionist and communication link within a patient-care area. Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities under the direction of Registered Nurse, and patient care support duties related to environmental, dietary, transportation, supplies, and light maintenance activities.

Formal Education Required:
a. High school level coursework in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics

Experience and Training Required:
a. Six (6) months of either direct patient care experience or clerical office experience which has provided knowledge of utilizing a computer to access information.
b. Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or equivalent and a score of 70% or greater on a screening medical terminology test.

b. Knowledge of computer keyboard and comfort using windows based software systems.

h. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other health care professionals in exchanging information and assisting with patient care

Level of Physical Demands:
a. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
b. Exposure to blood, body fluids and sharps; risks of falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc. due to location within a health care environment.
